New Terminology for Boil Water Advisories Starting March 6th

In order for our water advisory notifications to match recommendations by the NC Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), Hendersonville Water & Sewer will be updating the title of one of our water advisory categories. Starting on March 6, 2024, a ‘Boil Water Advisory’ notification will be called a ‘System Pressure Advisory.’

This update only pertains to the title of the advisory and does not change any of the processes or procedures taken by our staff or customers when periods of low water pressure or loss of water occur due to pipe breaks or preventative maintenance.

What: Hendersonville Water & Sewer is updating the terminology of ‘Boil Water Advisory’ to ‘System Pressure Advisory’

When: The use of the updated category name will start on March 6, 2024

Why: The utility is updating the advisory title to align with notification templates recommended by NCDEQ

System Pressure Advisories (previously known as Boil Water Advisories) are notifications informing water customers of an interruption of water service or period of low pressure. Customers are directed to boil their tap water before using it for drinking water purposes or to drink bottled water. When water systems experience low pressure or loss of pressure, there is an increased risk of contamination. This does not mean that the water is contaminated, but that the possibility exists, and customers are notified. Events like scheduled line maintenance, water main breaks, loss of system pressure, power outages or natural disasters can lead to a system pressure advisory being issued. Water customers are notified using the contact information listed on their billing account. We encourage customers to ensure their contact information is up to date so these important messages can be received.
