LOCATION The City of Hendersonville was incorporated January 7, 1847 and encompasses 6.93 square miles on a plateau about 2,200 feet above sea level. The City lies at the southern edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 40 miles north of Spartanburg and 22 miles south of Asheville on Interstate 26.
POPULATION According to the Office of State Planning in Raleigh, the population of the City is 13,135.
FORM OF GOVERNMENT Council/Manager: The City of Hendersonville has a full-time city manager who handles the day-to-day operations of the City. The mayor and four council members set policy. The council members serve staggered terms.
OFFICIALS The Mayor of the City is Barbara Volk. The Mayor Pro Tem is Jeff Collis and City Council members are: Steve Caraker, Jerry Smith, and Ralph Freeman. Appointed officials: City Manager is Bo Ferguson, the City Attorney is Samuel Fritschner and the City Clerk is Tammie Drake.
MEETINGS The Council meets on the first Thursday of each month at 5:45 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall located at 145 Fifth Avenue E., Hendersonville, NC. Regular meetings begin with public comment time.
BUDGET Total Net Appropriations: $25,843,230.
TAXES City residents pay 38 cents per $100 of property valuation. The downtown tax district pays an additional 25 cents per $100 of property valuation. The Seventh Avenue Municipal Service District pays an additional 8 cents per $100 of property valuation.
EMPLOYEES The City of Hendersonville employs 37 part-time employees and 198 full time employees.
